Our Charity of the Year: National Autistic Society

My Sliding Wardrobe is proud to be partnering with the National Autistic Society to help raise money for an incredible cause

National Autistic Society

At My Sliding Wardrobe, we believe in the power of community and giving back. That is why we have partnered with the National Autistic Society as our Charity of the Year 2024. This cause is incredibly close to our hearts and we are committed to making a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families affected by autism by raising thousands of pounds to support the work this amazing charity does day in and day out.

The National Autistic Society is a leading charity that works tirelessly to champion the rights and well-being of autistic people. Their efforts in raising awareness, providing essential services and advocating for positive change have inspired us and we are proud to stand with them.

A word from Aaron, founder of My Sliding Wardrobe:

We are a family business and just like almost every other family in the UK, we know someone who lives with autism and in our case, it is two young immediate family members who are both autistic.

The National Autistic Society is a charity with whom our family shares a deep and personal history as they have provided us with advice and support right from the initial delays in our sons’ speech, through the official diagnosis procedure and the challenging application processes for education support and this is why they occupy a special place in our hearts.

The National Autistic Society has been an invaluable source of advice and support for our family over many years. That is why we are proud and honoured to support them as our charity of the year and hope to raise thousands of pounds for this amazing organisation and cause.

How we are supporting the National Autistic Society and how you can help

We believe in the collective power of community to drive positive change and we invite you to join us in supporting the National Autistic Society through your purchase. In turn, we pledge to quadruple your donations and impact to this fantastic cause.

We’ve made it easy for our customers to opt to contribute to the National Autistic Society’s vital work with each wardrobe bought from us. From February 2024, when you place an order with us, you can choose to round up the order value as a donation to the National Autistic Society during the checkout process. For every £1 raised through customers rounding up their order value, we will contribute a minimum of an additional £3, quadrupling the donation. This means your support goes even further in making a positive change to the lives of those affected by autism and every contribution makes a huge difference, no matter how big or small.

A word from The National Autistic society on our partnership:

We at the National Autistic Society rely on support from businesses who operate in the communities we work in and we are so grateful to My Sliding Wardrobe for choosing to support us as their Charity of the Year.

We have recently launched our new three-year ‘Vision to Reality’ strategy, which defines the unique role the National Autistic Society will play in creating a society that works for autistic people. It will focus on support for all autistic individuals and their families to live a fulfilled life on their terms, to influence and collaborate with others to improve standards and adjustments and to transform society by building understanding, acceptance and respect for all autistic people.

We are really excited and looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together to help ensure we can continue to provide the crucial support autistic people and their families need. Thank you, My Sliding Wardrobe.

About The National Autistic Society

The National Autistic Society exists to transform lives and change attitudes to help create a society that works for autistic people. The National Autistic Society has been fighting for autistic people’s rights since 1962 and aims to support the 3.7 million autistic people, their families and carers in the UK. This could be from running specialist schools to campaigning for improved rights or training companies to be more autism-friendly – they are dedicated to transforming lives and changing attitudes. Their mission is:

  • To transform lives by providing support, information and practical advice for more than 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK, as well as their 3 million family members and carers.
  • To change attitudes by improving public understanding of autism and helping businesses, local authorities and government to provide more autism-friendly spaces, deliver better services and improve laws.

What is Autism?

Autism is a lifelong developmental disability which affects how people communicate and interact with the world. More than one in 100 people are on the autism spectrum, and there are around 700,000 autistic adults and children in the UK.

How do the National Autistic Society help those with Autism?

National Autistic Society helps the 700,000 autistic people in the UK and their families and carers through:

  • Advice and guidance
  • Help and support
  • Branches throughout the UK
  • Education and children’s services
  • Diagnostic services
  • Employment
  • Professional development
  • Best practice

Some of their essential tools include their directory, which helps autistic people, their families and the professionals who work with them to find local and national services. It includes residential, supported living and respite, employment support, diagnostic, schools and nurseries, social groups and leisure activities, solicitors and advocacy organisations.

Their in-depth advice and guidance tool is an invaluable resource about autism and the challenges autistic people and their families face. It also has an easy-to-use search bar to quickly and easily find the specific information you need.

Are there any other ways I can support the National Autistic Society?

Aside from purchasing from My Sliding Wardrobe and rounding up the order value at the checkout, there are also many different ways you can support the National Autistic Society directly. You can raise money through fundraising and donations, raise awareness by campaigning with them, become a member and so much more. Find out more over on the National Autistic Society website.
