How To Fit A Hideaway Desk Or Dresser Into My Sliding Wardrobe
July 2026
With more and more people working from home these days, for many homeowners, bedrooms have moved beyond being simply a place to sleep; often doubling as a home office. Yet desks can take up a lot of valuable floor space in your room and may even risk upsetting your work-life balance. Imagine if it could all just be hidden away at the end of the day!
Fitted sliding wardrobes are popular for their ability to maximise bedroom storage, but as well as your clothes and accessories, they can also be an innovative way to create a hideaway desk or dresser – helping you maintain a tidy and organised living space.
Why add a desk or dresser inside your fitted wardrobe?
Dressing tables have long been a common fixture of bedroom furniture, but like desks, can take up a considerable amount of room. For a stylish solution that can save on both space and cost, why not consider revolutionising your bedroom with a fitted sliding wardrobe that incorporates your desk or dresser into the sleek design.
✔ Better Use of Space: Create a clutter-free, minimalist look for your bedroom with your clothes and belongings all organised safely in one place.
✔ Contemporary Style: Wardrobe-integrated desks and dressing tables work especially well in more compact spaces, like guest rooms, apartments or loft conversions.
✔ Discreet Workspace: Slide back the doors at the end of the working day to conceal laptops, devices and documents, so your bedroom feels like a bedroom again.
How can I include a hideaway desk or dresser in my sliding wardrobe design?

An effective way to create a desk or dresser space is to sandwich a horizontal shelf between 2 vertical supports, whether they be walls, dividers or shelf stacks. You can then decide whether to introduce storage below the desk or dresser top and / or additional shelving above it on the back wall. Our bedside units are a particularly effective way of creating a desk or dresser as they can double up as storage and provide appropriate height support for 1 or both sides under the desk or dresser top.
All of the elements you may need to create your desk / dresser can be added to your order using our easy-to-use wardrobe builder, after you’ve created the wardrobe exterior. Feel free to speak to us before completing your order so we can discuss your ideas and requirements and ensure you’ll have everything you need. With a free virtual consultation, we can even help draw up and fine-tune the design for you.
Can I put my existing desk or dresser inside my sliding wardrobe?
Of course. If you already have a free-standing desk or dresser but would like to be able to hide it away neatly and make better use of your bedroom space, putting it inside a sliding wardrobe is a cost-effective and space-efficient solution.
You just need to be sure the space in which you’re looking to install has sufficient depth for your furniture to sit behind the sliding doors. Simply measure the maximum (front-to-back) depth of your desk or dresser and ensure that the internal space between the back wall and the back of your sliding door system can accommodate it. A typical 60cm deep sliding wardrobe would be able to accommodate 51cm of desk or dresser inside, and this increases the deeper the wardrobe becomes.
