Maximise Wardrobe Access With A Triple-Track System
April 2025

When designing your sliding wardrobe, you may want to consider the access space and functionality of triple track sliding doors. Not simply in terms of the look and feel of a 3 door sliding system, but also in the practicalities of accessing what is behind the doors and reaching your clothes and accessories. This is especially true when your wardrobe interior includes multiple clothes rails, shelf stacks and in particular, wide drawers.
If you prefer a larger opening to view and pick out your clothes, a triple track sliding door system is a game-changer for optimising your access space. Triple track wardrobes are especially useful if you have a narrow or more compact area in which to install them, but triple tracks can be a popular choice regardless of the shape or size of your space.
What Is A Triple Track System?
Triple track for sliding wardrobe doors allows 3 sliding doors to run along 3 parallel tracks positioned at the top and bottom of your wardrobe space, for opening widths between 110cm and 362cm. This allows a single door to have a dedicated track channel in which to run the entire width of the opening from left to right. In doing so, the triple track sliding wardrobe door system enables every door to ‘stack’ behind each other – rather than multiple doors butting against each other on the same track channel – creating a wider access space to your clothes and belongings inside.
What Is Access Space?
On a standard double track sliding wardrobe, the doors on the front and rear tracks slide seamlessly to overlap each other, however on 3 door systems and larger, there will be at least 1 track channel with more than 1 door on it. This creates an area of opening or access space to your wardrobe interior, however the percentage of open access space you can achieve will depend on the number of sliding doors. For example:
2-Doors – Approx. 46% | 3-Door – Approx. 29% | 4-Door – Approx. 46% | 5-Door – Approx. 36% | 6-Door – Approx. 46%
A 2 door sliding wardrobe allows this access on the left or right side; while with a 3 to 6 door sliding wardrobe, access can be the left, right and also in the middle. You can find out more detail about calculating access space or get a sense of the possibilities in context by watching this short video:
How Does Triple Track Work?
By adding a second track – a single track behind the standard double track, you create a 3 track channel, a triple track sliding door system which allows the doors to overlap or ‘stack’ on top of each other when opened. This creates a much larger access space of approximately 65% on a 3 door system left or right as doors on the same track do not need to sit alongside each other and are instead concealed behind each other on separate track channels.
This effect can be especially beneficial when you have a narrower opening width for your wardrobe as a whole, but also creates the opportunity for better access to interior storage features like drawers and shelf stacks that are in a fixed position.
Our single tracks are available on the optional extras section of our 3D Design Tool in all of our elegant Framework & Track finishes, with the exception of Medium Oak. There are also a couple of key measurements to take into account when calculating the available space to install your sliding wardrobe with triple track system:
- Depth of sliding door track system – 126mm (increased from 83mm for double-track)
- Depth of our casing – 130mm (increased from 87mm for double-track)
This means when installing a triple track system, you will need your own casing / space of at least 126mm or if ordering new casing, it will need to be our special 130mm deep casing – our normal 87mm deep casing will not be deep enough. Your triple track system will fit seamlessly within our 640mm standard depth end panels if your sliding wardrobe requires them, but please keep in mind that the front 130mm of space will be needed for casing, track and doors.
How Do I Create My Triple Track Sliding Wardrobe?
When designing your own perfect sliding wardrobe with our 3D Wardrobe Designer, the components required to create a triple track system are included in the Optional Extras section. When you reach this point in the order process, please contact us directly so we can talk through your requirements and ensure you have everything you need, exactly as it should be.
Please note that a 3 door triple track system is not possible for opening widths below 101cm or for opening widths above 362cm. For opening widths above 362cm, you can also use a triple track system with 5 or 6 sliding doors to give greater access than a normal double track system as there will be 1 or 2 doors per track channel rather than 2 or 3.
Single & Quadruple Track Wardrobes
Depending on the size of your available space, or the functionality you want to achieve, you can use a single track system to move a door or doors to cover or uncover an opening in a wall, such as the entrance to an en-suite. You can also combine 2 sets of double tracks to create a quadruple track system for your sliding doors giving even greater access to your interior on a 4 door system up to an opening width of 480cm. The latter simply requires a minimum depth for the track, doors and casing of 17cm to accommodate all 4 track channels.
